Under advisement of someone more senior to the world of social exposure than me, I created an Epic-Exposure photographer profile on the modeling site, Model Mayhem. I felt that I needed to build a proven working relationship with various models that could help me with progressively larger corporate projects that require a human element. While doing some initial research, I found that there were three times more photographers (all male) on MM within a five mile radius of my zip code than there were female models. Of interest, none of these photographers showed up in my local city search under photographers/photography business. Clicking on some of the MM photographer homepages yielded dead sites as well. Of additional interest – all of the photographers were openly willing to shoot bodypaint, erotic, fetish, lingerie, and nude… while all of the models listed (100%) stated that they wanted nothing to do with taking their clothes off. Moving my search criteria out to a twenty five mile radius, I found two times more photographers than female models. Expanding the search to a fifty mile radius yielded a similar two times more photographers than female models. Lastly, in my larger search area, only 10% of the photographers were female. I leave it to you to draw your own conclusions… I just find the data, interesting. In any event, here is the text of the profile that I created:
My name is Bruce McCallum and I am a professional freelance and published photographer and the owner of Epic-Exposure, LLC. Epic-Exposure is a digital content creation -> publishing business that specializes in action, adventure, event, nature, studio, and life imagery. Epic-Exposure just recently setup a 3,000 square foot photo studio in the shadow of the Cascade Mountains that facilitates everything from high end automotive studio photography; to athletes or dancers in full action mode; to digital green screen image compositing; to a wide array of modeling scenarios. Epic-Exposure also has various mobile studio capabilities that allow for remote, difficult to reach, weather impaired, and totally off-grid photo assignments.
My MM goal is to build professional working relationships with quality people who can help Epic-Exposure go after progressively larger and larger paid commercial projects. To this end, I am seeking to grow my network of female models in their early 20’s to mid 40’s that are serious about collaborating in a way that results in the production of the finest quality imagery. As Epic-Exposure’s primary brand and target client base most closely relate to outdoor activities I am looking for models that appear to be at their most comfortable being active outdoors in the Pacific Northwest. Epic-Exposure is totally committed to producing high quality and high impact images of real people that add depth and personality to outdoor lifestyle imagery.
In working with me, here is what to expect:
Our working relationship starts via email.
If we have never met in-person – then we first meet in person. Usually fifteen minutes to half hour at a local North Bend coffee shop works fine. This step is required. During this meeting we will do introductions, review the plans of the shoot, review a basic model release form, and go over some basic expectations – on both sides.
Upon mutual signed consent, I schedule you for an introductory photo shoot at the Epic-Exposure photo studio. This introductory session can be largely freelance – so, if there are specific images that you would like captured then please let me know during our initial meeting so I can prepare to work them in. This initial photo shoot lasts no longer that two hours. If you are going to bring a friend or family member please make sure that I have already met them during our in-person meeting.
I will process some of the images of the photo shoot within 48 hours and provide you with a private download link to the low res digital files. These images can be used in accordance with our previously signed agreement.
You select any one image that you want printed as well as the size that you would like it printed (cut sheet @ 24 inches wide or less) and I complete the requested print within one business week.
If the initial session works out and we both agree to work together moving forward – so begins the start of a collaborative, seamless, progressive, and fun working relationship where we focus our time together on producing epic content that results in projects where we both are getting paid, appropriately.
Thanks and best success,
In my profile, I list the following genres that I am interested in shooting (Cosplay, Dance, Fashion, Fitness, Glamour, Lifestyle, Sports, and Stunt). No nudes, thanks. Plenty of local unlisted ‘photographers’ to service that market.
